The Rescue Diver course is the last recreational course before you can start your professional-level training on your journey to becoming a dive instructor. On PADI Rescue Course, You will be taught skills such as towing a tired diver, how to rescue a tired and panicking swimmer and diver on the surface, how to deal with a panicking diver underwater and how to give in-water rescue breaths and get the unresponsive diver to shore or back on to a boat.

The PADI Rescue Diver course is split into three sections

The academics consist of a PADI Rescue Diver video with five multiple-choice knowledge reviews to complete and review with your instructor. There is also an exam which consists of 50 multiple-choice questions. You will also need an emergency evacuation plan (EAP) for your local area.

Confined water training is where you will learn all the new skills taught on the PADI Rescue Diver Course. Your instructor will demonstrate, and you will get plenty of time to practise these new skills.

The final day is about using all the skills you have learnt and putting them into the scenario-based assessment. You will have two scenarios that you need to complete. The first is to search and find a missing diver and surface and unresponsive diver, and the second scenario is bringing the unresponsive diver back to shore or boat while giving in water rescue breaths.

To be certified as a rescue diver, you must have first aid training within the last two years. If you still need to get this, you can do the Emergency First Response Course is PADI's version of a First Aid course.

What are the prerequisites to start the PADI Rescue diver course?

To start the PADI Rescue course you will need to be a certified Advanced Open water or a minimum of a PADI Adventure diver with the Navigation Adventure dive.

How long should my course take?

The quickest you time you can do your Rescue Course is in 2 days.This is not recommend as the more time you spend practising your skills the more comfortable you will be with performing a rescue if you need to use you skills for real.I find 3-4 days is the best time for a rescue course.

How long is my EFR certification valid for?

So to keep your skills fresh and up to date the EFR certification is valid for 2 years after this you will do a renew course.

How many dives will i do on the rescue course?

At a minimum you will do 3 dives, the number of dives you will do will depend on how long you're course and depending on the quality of skills during confined sessions.
